Overview

Separated from her parents when their forest home is destroyed, Ozi is taken in by kind wildlife sanctuary owners who keep her safe and slowly teach her to communicate through sign language. With the combination of her new skills and natural talent for social media, Ozi soon has a worldwide following. When she learns that her parents might be alive, Ozi sets off on a quest to find them and to tell the world what is happening to the rainforest before it’s too late. With help from new friends, cheeky monkey Chance and loveable rhino Honkus, Ozi discovers that one voice really can change the world.

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, this animated eco-adventure follows Ozi (voiced by Amandla Stenberg), a young orangutan who is separated from her parents during a devastating forest fire caused by a palm oil corporation. Rescued by a wildlife sanctuary, Ozi learns sign language and—in a very modern twist—becomes a social media influencer. When she discovers her parents might still be alive, she teams up with a cheeky monkey named Chance and a clumsy rhino named Honkus to expose the "Greenzar" corporation and save her home. It’s a vibrant, well-meaning film that tries to package a heavy environmental message for the TikTok generation. THE PROS The animation is a clear winner; for an indie production, it looks fantastic, with bright, lush landscapes and character designs that feel spry and whimsical. Amandla Stenberg brings a sincere and engaging energy to Ozi, making the character’s journey from orphan to activist feel genuinely moving. It’s a 6/10 because the voice cast is surprisingly high-quality, featuring heavyweights like Laura Dern, Djimon Hounsou, and the late Donald Sutherland, who all add a layer of gravity to the proceedings.
