⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Arturo Bandini (Colin Farrell) is a struggling writer in Depression-era Los Angeles, living in a flea-ridden hotel and dreaming of literary greatness while starving on oranges. His life takes a messy turn when he meets Camilla (Salma Hayek), a fierce Mexican waitress who is dealing with her own struggles against a prejudiced society. The two strike up a volatile, self-destructive relationship fueled by pride, poverty, and mutual obsession. It’s a gritty, sun-drenched drama about the desperation of the American Dream and the toxic spark between two people who are too proud for their own good. THE PROS The film is visually stunning, capturing a 1930s Los Angeles that feels both beautiful and decaying. It hits a 6 because it doesn't shy away from the unglamorous reality of the era—the dust, the hunger, and the casual racism are all portrayed with honesty. Colin Farrell leans into Bandini’s arrogance and vulnerability, while Salma Hayek brings a raw, pained energy to Camilla.
