    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 1/10 THE SUMMARY This isn't the alien invasion you’re looking for. Ice Cube stars as Will Radford, a government analyst who spends the entire movie staring at a laptop screen while Martians invade Earth. Instead of tripod lasers and massive battles, the invaders are here to "consume our data," hacking into cloud servers and crashing Zoom calls. The whole film takes place on a computer desktop, meaning you spend 89 minutes watching file downloads and security camera footage while Ice Cube shouts at his webcam. It’s a "modern spin" on the H.G. Wells classic that feels more like an accidental IT tutorial than a sci-fi blockbuster. THE PROS It’s only 89 minutes long, which is a blessing because any longer would probably be classified as a war crime. The premise of aliens wanting our data instead of our blood is a decent idea on paper, even if the execution is a total damp squib. Clark Gregg does his best with the material, appearing as a shadowy government director, but even his professional energy can’t save this from being a disaster. If you’re a hardcore fan of looking at desktop icons and Amazon Prime delivery notifications, this might be the film for you. THE CONS Where do we start? It earns a 1/10 because it’s effectively a feature-length commercial for Amazon, with a "Prime Air" drone literally saving the day in the final act. Ice Cube is pure quality-deficient here; he won a Razzie for Worst Actor because he spends the whole time ad-libbing lines that make him sound like he’s never seen a computer before. The CGI is bottom-of-the-barrel, and because the first part of the movie is just stock footage and grainy Zoom calls, it feels like a project made during a lockdown that nobody asked for. It misses a higher rating because it’s boring, bumbling, and frankly, an insult to the source material—definitely not epic status. THE VERDICT A 1/10. Avoid at all costs—this is a genuine disaster and easily one of the worst movies of 2025. A winner only for the Razzies, where it swept almost every category including Worst Picture. Go and watch the 2005 version instead; even the loud tripod horn is better than watching Ice Cube try to "hack" an alien. This remains a highly anticipated watch only for people who enjoy "so bad it's good" cinema, but even then, it’s mostly just bad. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Razzie Sweep: The film made history at the 2026 Golden Raspberry Awards by winning five awards, including Worst Picture and Worst Director. Ice Cube’s "Worst Actor" win was a total winner for the critics who panned his static, screen-staring performance. • Product Placement: The film was heavily criticized for its honest-to-god obnoxious advertising.
