⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Mal and the gang return to the Isle of the Lost to recruit a new batch of "Villain Kids" for Auradon. Just as Mal and King Ben announce their engagement, Ben’s ex, Audrey, snaps. She steals Maleficent’s scepter and becomes the "Queen of Mean," casting a sleeping curse over the kingdom. To stop her, Mal has to team up with her old rival Uma and retrieve a powerful ember from her absentee father, Hades. THE PROS The music is a win. Sarah Jeffery’s "Queen of Mean" is a total belter and easily the standout track of the film. It’s a good movie for fans of the franchise because it finally gives closure to the core four characters—Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay. The chemistry between the cast is punchy, and seeing the Isle kids and Auradon kids finally working together is an epic moment for the series. THE CONS The plot is a bit of a damp squib. The "Hades is Mal’s dad" reveal feels rushed and doesn't get the screen time it deserves. It misses the 8/10 mark because the pacing feels sluggish in the middle, and the resolution for Audrey is a bit confusing—she basically gets a pass for nearly destroying the kingdom just because she says sorry. It’s a decent finale, but it lacks the grit of the first two films. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a recommendation if you’ve followed the story this far. It’s a belter for the dance numbers, even if the script is a bit thin. Go and watch it for the "Night Falls" sequence—it’s the best fight-dance combo in the trilogy. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Unexpected Talent: The dog that plays Carlos’s pet, Dude, is actually a female dog named Paisley. • Hidden Stash: Dove Cameron actually had chapstick hidden in the sleeves and pockets of her Mal costumes so she could apply it between takes without stopping. • Audition Swap: Sofia Carson originally auditioned for the role of Audrey, the daughter of Sleeping Beauty, before being cast as Evie. THE VIBE Like a neon-colored pop concert in a castle. It smells like hairspray, leather jackets, and magic smoke.
