Overview

The chilling and relentless Jigsaw killer returns to terrorize the city once again. ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Detective Eric Matthews is led to a derelict house where eight strangers—including his own son—are trapped in a room slowly filling with nerve gas. As they scramble to find antidotes hidden in various lethal contraptions, Matthews is forced to sit and talk with a frail John Kramer. It’s a race against the clock where the real test isn't just surviving the house, but Matthews keeping his cool while Jigsaw dismantles his ego. THE PROS This is a win for expanding the lore without losing the claustrophobic tension of the original. Donnie Wahlberg is a total belter as the hot-headed cop, and his interrogation scenes with Tobin Bell are the highlight of the film. The "Pit of Needles" is a standout moment—absolute nightmare fuel that remains one of the most viscerally uncomfortable scenes in horror. It’s a good movie because it raises the stakes, giving us more traps and a much faster pace, while delivering a final twist that hits like a sledgehammer. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because, while a solid follow-up, some of the characters in the house are a bit of a head-scratcher and act like complete idiots just to move the plot along. The lighting is a bit too "grimy green" at times, which can feel sluggish during the slower transitions. It misses the 9/10 mark because it trades some of the psychological mystery of the first film for more traditional slasher vibes, but it’s still a punchy, effective sequel. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and a recommendation for anyone who likes their sequels bigger and bloodier. It’s a vault essential for horror fans and contains some of the most iconic imagery of the 2000s. Go and watch it for the "Furnace" trap and the final reveal—it’s a belter that proved the franchise had legs. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Top Secret: The script for the finale was only given to the actors on the day of filming to ensure the twist didn't leak. They even filmed several fake endings to keep the crew guessing.• Needle Nightmare: The needle pit used over 120,000 syringes. Most were plastic with dulled points, but it still took the crew four days to replace the needles for every take to keep the "shuffling" sound realistic.• Casting Call: The role of Eric Matthews was written specifically for Donnie Wahlberg after the director saw his intense performance in 'The Sixth Sense'. THE VIBE Like being stuck in a rusty cage while a clock ticks down. It smells like old iron, bleach, and fear. It makes you want to follow the rules, stay calm under pressure, and realize that "close" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
