The new Hunger Games movie is officially on the way… and yeah, it looks like Panem is about to ruin lives all over again.
Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and this new Hunger Games movie isn’t playing around. We’re going back to the 50th Hunger Games — the one fans have been low-key obsessed with for years.
If you thought the original arena was rough… this one looks like it needs a therapist.

This New Hunger Games Movie Looks Brutal
So here’s the deal — this new Hunger Games movie is set during the Second Quarter Quell.
Which basically means the Capitol woke up and chose violence.
Instead of the usual setup, districts had to send double the tributes. Twice the players, twice the chaos, and about half the chances of making it out alive.
Classic Panem behaviour.
Young Haymitch… Before Life Destroyed Him
This is where it gets interesting.
The new Hunger Games movie focuses on a young Haymitch Abernathy — before he became everyone’s favourite sarcastic, slightly unhinged mentor.
He’s played by Joseph Zada, and from the trailer, you can already tell this version of Haymitch is sharp, strategic, and very aware that everything around him is designed to kill him.
Which… fair.
We finally get to see:
- How he actually won
- Why his victory annoyed the Capitol
- And what it cost him
If you’ve seen The Hunger Games, you already know this isn’t a happy origin story.
The Cast Is Stacked (No Weak Links Here)
This new Hunger Games movie is not messing about when it comes to casting:
- Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket
- Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman
- Ralph Fiennes as President Snow
- Plus Glenn Close, Mckenna Grace and Whitney Peak
It’s giving “we’re taking this very seriously”… which is exactly what you want from a Hunger Games film.
Same Director = Good News
Francis Lawrence is back directing, alongside Billy Ray, adapting the book by Suzanne Collins.
Translation:
It should actually feel like a Hunger Games movie — not one of those spin-offs that forgets why people liked the original.
Expect politics, manipulation, and the kind of decisions where there’s no “good” option.
Should You Rewatch the Originals?
Honestly… yeah.
This new Hunger Games movie hits harder if you remember who Haymitch becomes later on.
You can catch the originals on Prime Video and other platforms depending on what’s available.
Plus, it’s a great excuse to watch them again — no one’s complaining.
Release Date — Lock It In
The new Hunger Games movie lands on November 18, 2026.
And if the trailer is anything to go by, this might be one of the darkest entries in the entire series.
