Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Picking up immediately after the brutal cliffhanger of Chapter 1, Maya (Madelaine Petsch) finds herself waking up in a hospital, thinking the nightmare in the woods is over. Of course, the trio of masked psychopaths—Dollface, Pin-Up Girl, and Scarecrow—have other plans. This middle entry in the trilogy moves the chaos from the isolated cabin into a small, seemingly sleepy town, turning the entire community into a hunting ground. As Maya tries to figure out why she’s being targeted, the body count rises and the hopelessness settles in. It’s a slasher that leans heavily into the "nowhere is safe" trope while expanding on the dread established in the first part. THE PROS Madelaine Petsch is a total standout, delivering a raw and physically demanding performance that makes her survival instinct feel honest. The transition from the cabin to a town setting adds a fresh layer of paranoia, making every shadow and open window feel like a threat. It’s a 6/10 because the cinematography remains top-tier, using long takes and wide shots to show the killers looming in the background, which is always the best part of this franchise. There are a few creative kills that will satisfy the hardcore horror fans, and the practical effects used for the gore are spot on. Renny Harlin knows how to pace a chase sequence, and the final part of this chapter is genuinely gripping as the scale of the trap is revealed. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because it suffers from serious "middle chapter" syndrome, ending on yet another cliffhanger that might leave you feeling a bit short-changed. The middle part is quite sluggish, with a lot of scenes of Maya wandering through hallways and alleys that feel a bit repetitive after the third or fourth time. It misses a higher mark because some of the logic is quality-deficient; characters make the classic "horror movie mistakes" that feel a bit frustrating in 2026. The mystery of "why" they are doing this is teased but never really satisfied, which can feel a bit like the plot is just running on fumes to bridge the gap to Chapter 3. THE VERDICT A 6/10. A decent slasher that maintains the tension but doesn't quite push the boundaries of the genre. It’s a winner for those who are already invested in Maya’s story and want to see the masked trio cause more mayhem, but it won't convert anyone who wasn't a fan of the first part. Anticipated for horror junkies, it’s a solid enough bridge to the finale, even if it feels a bit like a "holding pattern" movie. Worth a watch for the scares, just don't expect many answers yet.
