    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Jim Yung, a quiet bloke with a sharp eye, joins his mates for a weekend of shooting in the desert. The trip turns into a nightmare when they accidentally unleash an ancient alien power. After being exposed to a mysterious dust, Jim starts developing superhuman senses and strength. While his friends struggle to survive the fallout, Jim is recruited by a secret organization that’s been tracking this extraterrestrial threat for years. He has to decide if he’s a victim of the dust or the key to saving the world from an invisible invasion. THE PROS Derek Ting is a win for his sheer ambition; making a sci-fi film on a shoestring budget in the desert is no small feat. The location is punchy, using the vast, empty landscape to create a sense of isolation and dread. It’s a decent watch because it serves as a gritty origin story that doesn't rely on flashy capes or billionaire backstories. The mystery surrounding the "dust" is an epic hook that keeps you guessing through the first half of the film. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because the low budget shows in the pacing, which can feel sluggish during the long stretches of dialogue in the desert. The acting from some of the supporting cast is a bit of a damp squib, making the emotional stakes feel thin at times. It misses a higher mark because the transition from a "friends in the desert" thriller to a high-concept sci-fi movie is a bit jarring and could have been smoother. THE VERDICT A 6/10. Decent if you like seeing how indie filmmakers tackle big ideas with limited resources. It’s a winner for the groundwork it lays for the sequel, 'Agent Revelation'. Go and watch it if you want a sci-fi flick that feels grounded and a bit rough around the edges. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • DIY Directing: Derek Ting wrote, directed, and starred in the film. He used his real-life experience with martial arts to help choreograph the fight scenes without needing a massive stunt team. • Desert Hazards: The film was shot on location in the high desert, where the crew had to deal with extreme temperature swings and actual dust storms that sometimes made filming impossible. • Practical Origins: To save on costs, many of the tactical gear and weapons seen in the film were sourced from local enthusiasts and private collections to give the secret organization a realistic, "black ops" look.
