⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 4/10 THE SUMMARY In this low-budget survival horror, a group of counselors arrives at an isolated summer camp to prepare for the upcoming season. However, the woods hold a dark secret, and they soon find themselves being hunted by a masked killer with a penchant for creative butchery. It’s a standard slasher setup that tries to lean into 80s nostalgia but often finds itself stuck in the mud of modern indie tropes. As the body count rises, the counselors must figure out the legend behind the woods before the final campfire is extinguished for good. THE PROS The practical gore effects are an honest winner here. For a film with a limited budget, the kills are absolute quality and show a sincere love for old-school horror craftsmanship. The setting is a legendary shout for anyone who grew up on *Friday the 13th*, and the cinematography captures the spooky, high-quality isolation of the forest at night quite well. One or two of the performances are a total win, bringing a touch of humor and banter to the group that makes them feel a bit more human before the hacking begins. It earns its points for being a banger for die-hard slasher fans who just want to see some high-quality carnage.
