⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Five years after saving New York from a giant marshmallow, the Ghostbusters are broke, sued into oblivion, and reduced to performing at kids' birthday parties. Peter is a cheesy talk-show host, and Dana is a single mum working at a museum. When Dana’s baby's pram starts rolling on its own, the boys discover a massive river of "mood slime" flowing under the city that reacts to all the negative vibes of New Yorkers. It’s all being controlled by Vigo the Carpathian, a 16th-century tyrant trapped in a painting who wants to reborn himself into Dana's kid. The boys have to suit up again, find some "positive" slime, and pilot the Statue of Liberty to save the day. THE PROS This is a win for anyone who just wants to see the original gang back together. The chemistry between Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis is a total belter and carries the movie even when the plot gets a bit silly. Peter MacNicol is a celebratory explosion of weirdness as Janosz—his "everything you are doing is bad" line is punchy and hilarious. It’s a decent watch because it brings back the classic gadgets and gives us Vigo, who is actually a sincere, creepy-as-hell villain for a comedy. The idea of "mood slime" fueled by New York's rudeness is a clever touch that fits the city perfectly. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because it feels a sincere bit like a "cover version" of the first movie—it follows the exact same structure but with less grit. The pacing can feel sluggish in the middle while they’re messing around with the baby, which is a bit of a head-scratcher if you want more actual ghost-busting. It misses the 8/10 mark because the ending, while fun, is a bit of a damp squib compared to the Stay Puft Man, and the tone feels a bit more "aimed at kids" because the cartoon was so popular at the time. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a recommendation for a nostalgic trip back to the 80s. It’s not quite a vault essential like the original, but it’s a good movie for a laugh. Go and watch it for the courtroom scene and the walking Statue of Liberty—it’s a belter of a visual even if the science is a bit wonky. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Max von Sydow's Voice: The actor who played Vigo on screen, Wilhelm von Homburg, didn't actually speak a word in the film. His voice was entirely dubbed over by the legendary Max von Sydow because the director wanted a more "god-like" and menacing tone.• John Denver’s Nephews: The twin boys who played baby Oscar are actually the nephews of country singer John Denver. They only ever appeared in this one movie before heading off into normal lives.• Reitman’s Cameo: The little kid at the birthday party who tells Ray and Winston that they’re "full of crap" is actually Jason Reitman, the director’s son. He grew up to direct *Ghostbusters: Afterlife* and *Frozen Empire*! THE VIBE Like a bowl of pink custard that’s trying to eat you. It smells like subway tunnels, old oil paint, and city smog. It makes you want to be nice to your neighbors, buy a toaster that can dance, and realize that New York really is a nicer place when people stop shouting at each other.
