⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Benoit Blanc is back, but he’s swapped the gloomy Massachusetts woods for a posh private island in Greece. Tech billionaire Miles Bron invites his "disruptor" mates for a murder mystery party, but things get awkward when a real body drops. Blanc has to peel back the layers of a group of fame-hungry influencers, politicians, and scientists to find the killer. It’s a bright, loud, and satirical puzzle where everyone is wearing a mask—both literally (thanks, COVID) and figuratively. THE PROS This is a win for anyone who likes their mysteries with a side of "eat the rich." Edward Norton is a total belter as the tech-bro billionaire who thinks he’s a genius but is actually a bit of a tool. Janelle Monáe is the standout here; she brings a sincere bit of heart to a room full of egos. The cameos are a celebratory explosion of "who’s that?" moments that keep the energy high. It’s a good movie because it’s not afraid to be big, colorful, and a bit ridiculous, making it a punchy follow-up that feels completely different from the first one. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because it can feel a bit sluggish in the middle when it stops the action to do a massive flashback—like the movie hits "pause" just as it’s getting good. The setting is gorgeous, but some of the satire on influencer culture is a bit of a head-scratcher and feels a tad dated already. It misses the 9/10 mark because it trades the tight, cozy tension of the original for over-the-top visuals and explosions, which makes it feel a bit less "human." THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and a recommendation if you want something flashy and fun for a Saturday night. It’s a vault essential for the "Among Us" jokes and Benoit Blanc’s incredible swimwear alone. Go and watch it for the "Dong!" and the final chaotic payoff—it’s a belter. He’s appeared in every single one of Rian Johnson’s movies in some way.• Covid Vaccine: The "efficient man" who gives everyone the mysterious blue tongue vaccine at the start is played by Ethan Hawke. He was just in the area filming something else and dropped by for a quick, uncredited cameo. THE VIBE Like a luxury holiday that’s gone horribly wrong. It smells like expensive sunscreen, hard kombucha, and burning ego. It makes you want to delete your social media, stay off private islands, and realize that just because someone is rich, it doesn't mean they’ve got a clue.
