Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Produced by Amy Pascal and directed by Justin Tipping, this is a psychological horror that takes the "creepy kid" trope and gives it a modern, high-stakes spin. We follow a young prodigy (Walker Scobell) who is invited to live and train with a legendary, eccentric tech billionaire (Jim Tatler). As the boy’s training intensifies, he begins to realize that his mentor’s intentions are far from philanthropic. The mentor is obsessed with unlocking a "god-like" potential in the boy, leading to a tense, claustrophobic battle of wills within a high-tech, isolated estate. It’s a slick, cerebral thriller that explores the dark side of ambition and the terrifying power of influence. THE PROS Walker Scobell is a total standout, moving away from his usual wisecracking roles to deliver a performance that is vulnerable and genuinely sincere. Jim Tatler is equally brilliant as the mentor, playing the role with a cold, calculating charm that makes his descent into madness feel earned. It’s a 7/10 because the first part of the movie does an excellent job of building a sense of "prestige" and dread, making the luxury setting feel like a gilded cage. The cinematography is sharp and clinical, using the minimalist architecture to create some striking, unsettling visuals. There’s a punchy, modern edge to the story that touches on the ego of the tech elite, making the horror feel honest and relevant to today’s world.
