Overview

In need of funds for research, Dr. Alan Grant accepts a large sum of money to accompany Paul and Amanda Kirby on an aerial tour of the infamous Isla Sorna. It isn't long before all hell breaks loose and the stranded wayfarers must fight for survival as a host of new -- and even more deadly -- dinosaurs try to make snacks of them.

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Dr. Alan Grant is back, but he’s basically been tricked into this one. A divorced couple, Paul and Amanda Kirby, lie to him about being wealthy thrill-seekers just to get him to Isla Sorna to help find their son, who went missing while parasailing. Instead of a nice aerial tour, the plane crashes, and the group finds themselves being hunted by a Spinosaurus—a massive new predator that makes the T-Rex look like a golden retriever. It’s a 90-minute frantic sprint through the jungle to find a kid and a way off the island. THE PROS This is a win for anyone who found the second movie a bit too long and moody. It’s punchy, fast-paced, and doesn't mess about. Sam Neill is a total belter as a grumpy, "fed up with dinosaurs" Alan Grant; he brings a sincere bit of grounding to the chaos. The Spinosaurus is a celebratory explosion of practical effects and looks terrifying, especially during the river attack. It’s a decent watch because it leans into the "monster movie" vibes and has some genuinely cool sequences, like the eerie bird cage scene with the Pteranodons. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because it’s a bit of a head-scratcher compared to the original. The Kirbys are incredibly annoying—Amanda Kirby spends about 70% of the movie screaming into a megaphone, which is a sincere way to get yourself eaten. The pacing is so fast that there’s almost zero character development, and the ending is a bit of a damp squib, with the army just showing up out of nowhere to save the day. It misses a higher mark because it feels like a "diet" Jurassic movie, lacking the wonder and intelligence of the first one. THE VERDICT A 6/10. Bad compared to the original, but decent if you just want a quick creature feature. It’s not a vault essential, but it’s worth a watch just to see the Spinosaurus snap a T-Rex's neck. Go and watch it for the bird cage fight and the "talking" raptor dream sequence—it’s a belter of a weird moment. The writers were literally turning in pages for the next day's shoot while they were already on set, which explains why the ending feels a bit rushed.• The "Talking" Raptor: The infamous dream sequence where a raptor says "Alan!" was actually inspired by a real-life suggestion from a fan. It’s become one of the most mocked—and weirdly memorable—moments in the whole franchise.• Spinosaurus vs. T-Rex: The animatronic Spinosaurus was the largest and heaviest ever built by Stan Winston Studio. During the fight scene, it was so powerful that it accidentally knocked the head off the T-Rex animatronic in one take. THE VIBE Like a frantic dash through a greenhouse. It smells like damp earth, rusty metal, and panic. It makes you want to stay away from parasails, never trust a couple with a "vacation" plan, and realize that some phones are much safer inside a dinosaur's stomach.
