⭐️Insomniacs Rating: 3/10 THE SUMMARYForget ancient curses and epic battles. This time, a family living in Egypt unknowingly disturbs a black pyramid beneath their home, leading to their young daughter, Katie, being snatched away. Eight years later, when the family is living in New Mexico, she suddenly reappears. But she isn't "Katie" anymore—she’s a living vessel for a demonic entity. What follows is two hours of a possessed child spider-crawling across the ceiling and systematically psychologically torturing her own parents. It’s less "Indiana Jones" and more "The Exorcist" with a sunburn. THE PROSThe practical effects are undeniably gross and impressive. If you want to see what a human body looks like when it’s being "mummified" from the inside out while still alive, Lee Cronin is your man. The sound design is also top-tier; the wet, crunching noises of the demon "adjusting" its host’s bones will definitely stick with you—whether you want them to or not. Plus, there's a neat cameo from Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise) as a teacher, which is a fun wink for the horror nerds. THE CONSIt’s absolutely joyless. There is zero humor, zero romance, and zero reason to root for anyone. It’s 134 minutes of unrelenting misery. By the time the family realized they’re essentially living in a high-budget snuff film, you’ll be checking your watch. It’s a "Mummy" movie in name only, stripping away everything that made the franchise a "huge favorite" for decades. THE VERDICTA 3/10 for being a tonal train wreck. It’s technically well-made, but it’s a "mean" movie that leaves you feeling like you need a shower. It’s the "wrong" kind of horror for this brand—like ordering a milkshake and getting a glass of warm blood. Skip it and wait for the "real" Mummy 4 in 2028. INSOMNIAC TRIVIALee Cronin actually turned down a sequel to Evil Dead Rise to make this, which explains why the demon in this movie acts exactly like a Deadite. Also, the title had to be legally changed to Lee Cronin's The Mummy to avoid confusion with the Brendan Fraser franchise, which is hilarious given that they couldn't be more different if they tried. THE VIBEBleak, wet, and deeply uncomfortable. It feels like a nightmare you can't wake up from, set in a suburban house that smells like rotting bandages. Best watched if you’re a hardcore gore-hound who thinks The Exorcist was "too cheery."
