⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Picking up mere minutes after the end of Casino Royale, this is a rare direct sequel that finds a vengeful, grieving James Bond on a hunt for the shadowy organisation that blackmailed Vesper Lynd. His mission takes him to Haiti, Austria, and the deserts of Bolivia, where he crosses paths with Camille Montes and Dominic Greene—a ruthless businessman using environmentalism as a front to seize control of a nation's water supply. It is a lean, mean, and incredibly fast-paced thriller that feels more like a Bourne-style revenge mission than a traditional suave spy flick. THE PROS The action is a win for those who like their stunts raw and gritty; the opening car chase along Lake Garda and the frantic foot pursuit across the rooftops of Siena are top-tier examples of pure kinetic energy. Daniel Craig is a sincere force of nature here, playing Bond as a man so blinded by rage he’s barely holding it together, which makes every punch feel heavier. The cinematography and location work are a celebratory explosion of style, particularly the opera house sequence in Bregenz, which is a masterclass in tension and visual storytelling. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because it suffers from a bit of a Languid Burn in the story department, partly due to the 2008 writers' strike which left the script a bit thin. The editing is a bit of a head-scratcher; it is so frantic and "shaky" in the fight scenes that it can be hard to actually see the choreography. Dominic Greene is a bit wet as a villain—he lacks the physical presence or the iconic flair of a classic Bond antagonist, making the stakes feel a tad lower.
