⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Forget the gadgets and the playboy billionaire routine; Matt Reeves delivers a rain-soaked, noir detective story that feels more like *Se7en* than a typical cape flick. Robert Pattinson is a younger, more obsessive Bruce Wayne who’s only been under the cowl for two years. When a sadistic killer known as The Riddler (Paul Dano) starts picking off Gotham’s elite and leaving cryptic puzzles, Batman has to dive into the city's corrupt underbelly. It’s a moody, high-quality epic that focuses on the "World's Greatest Detective" aspect of the character, trading colorful villains for a grounded, terrifying look at a city on the brink. THE PROS This earns its 9/10 and "Epic Status" because it finally nails the atmosphere of Gotham City; it’s a legendary, rotting character in its own right. Robert Pattinson is a total winner—his Batman is sincere, vulnerable, and properly haunted, which feels honest to the character’s roots. The Batmobile chase is an absolute banger and easily one of the most visceral sequences in superhero history. It hits the 9/10 mark because the supporting cast is top-tier; Colin Farrell is unrecognizable and high-quality as Oz, and Zoë Kravitz brings a legendary energy to Catwoman. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Batmobile Roar: To make the Batmobile sound legendary and intimidating, the sound team mixed the roar of a high-quality Hemi engine with the scream of a jet turbine, giving it a unique, predatory mechanical sound.• Makeup Magic: Colin Farrell’s transformation into the Penguin was so high-quality that his co-stars didn't recognize him on set. He reportedly went to a Starbucks in full makeup and didn't get a single second glance, proving the effects were honest-to-god perfection.• Real Rain: To keep the vibe consistent, the production used massive rain machines for almost every outdoor scene in "Gotham," leading to a legendary and miserable shoot for the cast, but creating a high-quality atmosphere that CGI couldn't replicate.
