⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Set four years after the first film, Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) is back to face her worst nightmare. It’s 1956 France, and a series of brutal murders across European churches suggests that Valak, the demon nun, has escaped its Romanian tomb. Irene follows the trail to a boarding school where she discovers the entity is searching for a powerful holy relic. Along with a new novice, Sister Debra, Irene must confront the ancient evil once more while trying to save a young girl caught in the crossfire. It’s a bigger, louder sequel that trades the gothic castle for a creepy school setting. THE PROS Taissa Farmiga is great as Irene, bringing a quiet strength and a sincere sense of faith that makes her a worthy rival to a demon. The production design is spot on, turning an old French boarding school into a labyrinth of shadows and creaky floorboards that feel genuinely threatening. It’s a 6/10 because the "magazine stand" scene is a clever, visually striking scare that stands out as one of the best in the franchise. The final part delivers some punchy, high-stakes action that will satisfy those looking for a louder horror experience. Storm Reid adds a fresh energy to the cast, making the dynamic between the two sisters feel honest and grounded. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because the middle part is quite sluggish, with a lot of wandering through corridors that starts to feel a bit repetitive. The logic behind Valak’s plan is a bit of a stretch, and the constant jump scares can feel a bit draining after the first hour. It misses a higher mark because it loses the isolated, gothic atmosphere that made the first movie unique, feeling more like a standard blockbuster horror.
