    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 4/10 THE SUMMARY When a Category 5 hurricane slams into the South Carolina coast, the residents of Annieville think the wind and rain are their biggest problems. They’re wrong. The massive storm surge breaks open a tanker truck full of animal blood (naturally), turning the flooded downtown into an all-you-can-eat buffet for a school of ravenous sharks. We follow a pregnant woman going into labor (Phoebe Dynevor), an agoraphobic teen (Whitney Peak), and a shark expert (Djimon Hounsou) as they try to survive the rising tide and the fins circling their living rooms. It’s *Crawl* meets *Sharknado*, but with a lot less charm and a lot more "why is this happening?" THE PROS This is a 4/10 because, despite the mess, the cast actually tries. Phoebe Dynevor does her absolute best to sell the "giving birth while being hunted by a Great White" scenario, and Djimon Hounsou brings a level of gravitas to the role of "Uncle Dale" that the script doesn't really deserve. It hits the mark as a "guilty pleasure" for about twenty minutes because some of the kills are genuinely creative and the practical shark effects look surprisingly decent for a streaming movie. It’s a winner for those who just want to see Tommy Wirkola (the guy behind *Dead Snow*) lean into some gonzo gore, even if the rest of the film is sinking fast. THE CONS It misses a higher rating because the internal logic is non-existent. It settles at a 4 because the editing is choppier than a shark-infested sea; characters lose limbs and forget about them two scenes later, and sharks somehow manage to swim through six inches of water like they’re in the deep Atlantic. It misses the mark because it insists on "emotional beats" and climate change metaphors that feel completely out of place in a movie where a guy tries to kick open a truck door only to be immediately eaten. It’s the kind of film that had three different titles before landing on *Thrash*, and you can tell the production was just as confused as the name. THE VERDICT A solid 4/10. It is a disposable, logic-defying shark thriller that is perfect for when you want to see something bad on Netflix while scrolling on your phone. It isn't a 5 or 6 because it lacks the self-aware fun of a B-movie, choosing instead to be a "serious" disaster film that is anything but. If you’ve run out of shark movies to watch, go for it, but for most, this is one that should have stayed in development hell. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Identity Crisis: The film went through a massive branding struggle before release. It was originally titled *Beneath the Storm* and was intended for a theatrical run by Sony, then it was renamed *Shiver*, before finally being dumped on Netflix as *Thrash* in April 2026. • Location Swap: Although set in South Carolina, the film was actually shot entirely in Australia. This led to a "mismatch" vibe where mostly Australian actors are doing their best Southern accents while being rescued by a British lead (Dynevor) and a Beninese-American legend (Hounsou). • Blood Work: The plot point about the animal blood truck wasn't just a random idea; it was suggested by the producers to give a "scientific" reason for why so many sharks would converge on a single flooded town center at the same time. THE VIBE Like a soggy sandwich you found at a beach party. It smells like damp carpet, salt water, and regret. It’s loud, messy, and unintentionally funny. It makes you want to move inland, check the weather report, and realize that some predators are less scary than a bad script.
