    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY If you think politics is a dirty game, Climax (2026) shows that it’s actually a full-blown survival sport. This Korean political thriller follows Bang Tae-seop, a "star" prosecutor who shoots to the top of the food chain after marrying a massive celebrity. But life at the summit isn't all red carpets; he’s quickly sucked into a ruthless power struggle involving a corporate cartel, betrayal, and enough secrets to bury the entire elite class. It’s a sharp, cold look at ambition and what people are willing to tear down—including their own families—to rule the empire. THE PROS This is an 8/10 because it’s a high-stakes chess match that actually feels intelligent. Ju Ji-hoon is great as the prosecutor who is way more ambitious than he looks, and Ha Ji-won as his "past her prime" actress wife brings a lot of hidden layers to the story. The production is top-tier; everything from the sleek law offices to the shadowy backrooms looks expensive and menacing. It moves quickly for a political drama, keeping the "survival game" energy high without getting bogged down in too much jargon. The dynamic between the leads is a highlight—they built an empire together, but watching them tear each other apart is where the real fun is. THE CONS It misses a 9/10 because the "power cartel" tropes can feel a bit familiar if you’ve watched a lot of K-dramas in the archive. It can also be a bit of a head-scratcher early on with the sheer number of characters and corporate subplots you have to track. It settles at an 8 because, while it’s a high-quality thriller, it doesn't quite break new ground in the "corrupt elite" genre. It's a great watch, but it occasionally relies on the usual melodrama beats to keep the tension going. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It’s a smart, ruthless, and very bingeable series that shows the ugly underside of power. It isn't a 9 because it sticks a bit too close to the genre's playbook, but for pure drama and backstabbing, it’s one of the best shows out this year. If you want a thriller that feels like a polished game of cat-and-mouse, this is the one to get on with. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Production Delay: Filming was originally meant to start in late 2024 but got pushed back to 2025. This actually worked in their favour, as it allowed the writers to polish the "Pandora’s box" subplot that has become the show’s biggest talking point.• Star Power: The series marks a massive return for Ha Ji-won, and her character’s backstory as a famous actress who has to navigate the "ugly reality" of high-society marriage was written specifically with her career in mind.• Global Reach: Even though it’s an ENA production in Korea, it was picked up for international streaming on Disney+ and Viu before the first episode even aired, proving that the demand for these high-end political thrillers is at an all-time high. THE VIBE Like a cold glass of champagne in a room full of people who want to stab you in the back. It smells like expensive perfume and old paper. It’s tense, sleek, and feels like walking on thin ice. It makes you want to double-check your bank accounts, change your passwords, and trust absolutely nobody.
