    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY *Debris* (2021) is what happens when *The X-Files* crashes into a physics textbook and everyone walks away with a massive headache. After an alien spacecraft breaks up in our atmosphere, its fragments (the "debris") fall to Earth, each piece warping reality in bizarre and terrifying ways. CIA agent Bryan Beneventi and MI6 operative Finola Jones are tasked with cleaning it up, but they quickly realize the debris isn't just trash—it’s reacting to human emotion and grief. By April 2026, it’s remembered as one of the most intellectually stimulating sci-fi shows to ever get axed after just 13 episodes. THE PROS The "debris of the week" concept is a total win; one piece might make a town forget their own names, while another creates a literal "bridge" out of human memories. It is a sincere, thoughtful show that treats sci-fi as a metaphor for trauma and connection. Jonathan Tucker and Riann Steele have a quiet, crackling chemistry that doesn't rely on forced romance but on mutual survival. The show’s biggest win is its atmosphere—it feels cold, mysterious, and deeply lonely, like standing in a field in the middle of the night waiting for a star to fall. The arrival of John Noble (from *Fringe*) in the finale was a masterstroke that promised a much bigger world. THE CONS It is an 8/10 because it ends on a total head-scratcher of a cliffhanger that will never be resolved. NBC cancelled it in May 2021, just as we found out there was a "second Finola" in stasis and the mysterious group INFLUX was about to change the world. It misses the 9/10 mark because the pacing can be a massive Languid Burn; it’s a "slow-build" show in a "fast-food" network TV environment, which is ultimately why it failed. It is total garbage that we never got a Season 2 to see J.H. Wyman (the creator of *Fringe*) fully unleash the weirdness he was teasing. For some, the show’s relentlessly somber tone can be a bit of a downer if you’re looking for a fun alien adventure. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It is a genuine, smart, and beautifully shot piece of science fiction that was "too smart for TV" in the best way possible. I was slightly gutted when the 2026 "Peacock Revival" rumors turned out to be a hoax earlier this month, but the original season remains a must-watch in the 900+ archive. It is total garbage that it was cut short, but as a standalone experience, it’s incredibly haunting. By April 23, 2026, it’s still the show every "hard sci-fi" fan points to when they want to complain about networks not taking risks anymore. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA * Fringe Connections: Besides having the same creator (J.H. Wyman), the show features a guest role by John Noble, who played Walter Bishop in *Fringe*. Fans love to theory-craft that the two shows exist in the same multiverse.* Real Rain: The show was filmed in Vancouver, and the creators intentionally used the natural, gloomy weather to enhance the show's "dreary mystery" aesthetic, rarely using artificial sun on set.* The Eye Effect: The character George Jones has a milky, debris-affected eye.
