⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Welcome to the "uncanny valley" where your housekeeper might be planning a revolution. *Humans* (2015–2018) is a British-American sci-fi thriller set in a parallel present where the must-have gadget is a "Synth"—a highly advanced, humanoid servant. The story follows the Hawkins family as they buy a Synth named Anita (Gemma Chan), only to realize she’s one of a handful of "conscious" androids who can think and feel. It’s a three-season deep dive into the ethics of AI, labor, and what happens when the machines we built to serve us start asking for rights. By April 2026, it feels less like fiction and more like a very polite documentary about our own current obsession with LLMs and robotics. THE PROS Gemma Chan is a total win; her physical performance as Anita/Mia is a sincere masterclass in "robotic grace," moving with a precision that’s both beautiful and deeply unsettling. The show’s biggest win is its grounded approach—it doesn't focus on laser battles, but on how a robot in the house changes the family dynamic, from the husband’s awkward attraction to the daughter’s fear of being replaced in the job market. The supporting cast, especially the late William Hurt as a lonely widower clinging to his malfunctioning "son" Odi, brings a level of emotional weight you don't usually see in sci-fi. It’s smart, subtle, and incredibly tense. THE CONS It is an 8/10 because it was cancelled on a massive, world-changing cliffhanger in 2018. The Season 3 finale literally altered the biology of the planet, and then... nothing. It misses the 9/10 mark because some of the "Synth-terrorist" subplots in Season 2 feel like a bit of a Languid Burn compared to the tighter family drama of the first season. It is total garbage that Channel 4 and AMC pulled the plug just as the show was reaching its "Singularity" moment. For some, the slow pace and British "grayness" might feel a bit like a head-scratcher if you’re looking for high-octane *Terminator* action. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It is a genuine, thought-provoking, and beautifully acted series that has aged incredibly well. I was slightly gutted to find out earlier this month that the 2026 "revival" rumors were just social media noise sparked by a new Gemma Chan interview. It is total garbage that we don't have a Season 4 to see the fallout of the "Orange Eyes" event, but the 24 episodes we have are some of the best sci-fi in the 900+ archive. If you want a show that makes you look at your smart home devices with a bit more suspicion, this is the business. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA * Synth School: The actors playing Synths had to attend a "Synth School" where they learned how to move, blink, and breathe without looking human.
