Overview

After constantly traveling due to her parents' work, sixteen-year-old Sofía wants stability: to go to school and have friends. When they move to Río Vivo, a small town in the mountains, she finally gets what she wants, until a strange water-bound power threatens the normal teenage life she's worked so hard to achieve.

    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Sofia Rivera is a sixteen-year-old who has spent her entire life moving from one remote town to another, never staying long enough to make a real friend. Her luck seems to change when her family settles in the mountain village of Río Vivo, but the peace is short-lived. Sofia discovers she has uncontrollable supernatural powers tied to water, right as the mysterious Fénix siblings arrive in town. It’s a Latin American fantasy drama that mixes teenage "new girl" awkwardness with ancient secrets and a forbidden romance with a boy who might be more dangerous than he looks. THE PROS The show is at its strongest when it leans into its stunning Argentine setting. Filmed in Bariloche and Río Negro, the mountains and lakes aren't just a backdrop; they feel like part of the mystery. Gina Mastronicola is a likeable lead who carries the "is she crazy or magical?" confusion well. The connection between the water powers and Sofia's emotional state adds a layer of depth that keeps the "powers as a metaphor for puberty" trope feeling relatively fresh. It’s a clean, easy watch that’s perfect for younger fans of shows like *H2O: Just Add Water* or *Shadowhunters*. THE CONS It misses a higher score because it feels very "Disney Channel" in its execution. The plot is predictable, and the "mysterious boy" tropes are laid on a bit thick, which can feel a bit eye-rolling if you’ve aged out of the teen-drama demographic. It settles at a 6 because the pacing can be a bit leisurely, with some episodes focusing more on school rivalries than the actual supernatural threat. For a series about elemental powers, the special effects can be a bit hit-and-miss, occasionally looking more like a mobile app filter than a high-budget fantasy series. THE VERDICT A 6/10. It’s a charming, harmless fantasy series that will definitely hit the spot for teenagers who want a light supernatural mystery. It isn't a 7 or an 8 because it doesn't really break new ground in the genre, but it’s a decent enough binge for a rainy weekend. If you’re looking for something with a bit more grit or complexity, you might find this one a bit too simple. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Real World Magic: The series was filmed in the heart of Patagonia, and the freezing temperatures of the lakes meant that the actors often had to wear heated thermal suits under their clothes for any scene involving water.• Global Voice: While it’s an Argentine production, Disney released it in over 15 languages simultaneously. The English dub was recorded by a cast of veteran voice actors who have worked on dozens of other international Disney+ hits like *Violetta*.• Family Business: Many of the cast members, including Manuel Ramos (Gael), are well-known stars in Latin American teen television, having previously appeared in other major Disney and Nickelodeon productions before joining the world of Selenkay. THE VIBE Like a cold dip in a mountain lake on a sunny day. It smells like pine trees and fresh water. It’s bright, a bit dramatic, and very innocent. It makes you want to move to the mountains, check your reflection in every puddle, and realize that some family secrets are better left submerged.
