    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10​ THE SUMMARY ​If Virgin River had a slightly more anxious cousin, it would be Sullivan’s Crossing. High-flying neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan gets hit with a double-whammy of legal drama and professional sabotage in Boston, so she does what any sane TV protagonist does: flees to her picturesque childhood home in Nova Scotia. She’s there to reconnect with her estranged, grumpy-but-lovable father, Sully (Scott Patterson), while inevitably tripping over a handsome local drifter named Cal (Chad Michael Murray).​ THE PROS ​It is the ultimate "comfort food" television. The Nova Scotia scenery is so breathtaking it practically acts as a secondary lead character. Morgan Kohan is great as the tightly wound Maggie, and the chemistry with Chad Michael Murray is exactly the kind of slow-burn pining you want from a series based on a Robyn Carr novel. It’s cozy, earnest, and handles themes of family trauma and second chances with a gentleness that makes it perfect for a late-night wind-down.​ THE CONS ​It can be shamelessly soapy. If you aren't a fan of dramatic misunderstandings, convenient plot twists, and characters refusing to have 30-second conversations that would solve everything, you might find yourself shouting at the screen. The pacing is very "small town"—things move at a crawl, and the "villains" can feel a bit like cardboard cutouts. Also, the Season 3 cliffhangers were wild, and Season 4 just started with a "long-lost husband" twist that feels a bit like the writers were pulling tropes out of a hat.​ THE VERDICT ​It’s not trying to be Breaking Bad; it’s trying to be a warm blanket. It’s a solid 7 that delivers exactly what it promises: romance, drama, and enough flannel to outfit a small army. If you need a break from the gritty, cynical stuff, this is your safe harbor.​ INSOMNIAC TRIVIA ​ Fans of Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill basically treat this show like a crossover event since it stars Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) and Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray). Interestingly, Scott Patterson actually announced he was leaving the show recently after Season 3, citing "creative differences," which has left a massive, Sully-shaped hole in the current Season 4 storyline.​ THE VIBE ​ Like a warm mug of cocoa on a rainy night—safe, sweet, and probably going to give you a toothache if you consume too much of it at once.
